Ministerial departments and Government-side offices of Hampshire County Government.

• First Minister’s Office

  Supports the First Minister of Hampshire County, Cabinet government and the overall direction of Hampshire County Government.

• Attorney General’s Office

  Supports the Hampshire Law Officers and provides legal advice and public-interest legal functions within HCG competence.

• Cabinet Office

  Supports Cabinet, the HCG Civil Service, collective government, propriety, resilience and cross-government coordination. It also carries HCG centre-of-government responsibility for intelligence strategy and public-sector AI adoption.

• Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade

  Leads business, trade, investment, science, research, innovation and technology-led growth functions assigned to Hampshire County.

• Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

  Leads digital policy, telecommunications, online safety, government digital-service functions, culture, media, sport, heritage, tourism, youth and civil-society functions assigned to Hampshire County.

• Department for Education

  Leads schools, education, children’s services, further and higher education and education standards within HCG competence.

• Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

  Leads energy security, energy policy, decarbonisation and net zero within HCG competence.

• Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

  Leads environmental protection, food, farming, fisheries and rural affairs within HCG competence.

• Department for Transport

  Leads transport policy and the Hampshire transport system, including roads, rail, public transport and maritime policy within HCG competence.

• Department for Work and Pensions

  Leads social security, pensions, employment support and the skills functions assigned to Hampshire County.

• Department of Health and Social Care

  Leads health and social care policy and stewardship of the Hampshire health system.

• Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

  Leads country-to-country and international-system external affairs functions assigned to Hampshire County.

• HCG HM Treasury

  Leads Hampshire County public finance, economic policy, taxation and spending control. It is institutionally distinct from Lord Lieutenant’s Treasury.

• Home Office

  Leads policing, crime, public order, internal security, borders and related Home Office functions assigned to Hampshire County.

• Ministry of Defence

  Leads defence policy and defence administration functions assigned to Hampshire County.

• Department responsible for housing, planning and communities

  Leads housing, planning, building safety, homelessness and communities functions assigned to HCG. Its formal department title will be published when settled; central local-government policy is outside HCG.

• Ministry of Justice

  Leads justice policy and justice administration functions assigned to HCG while preserving judicial independence.

• UK Export Finance

  Hampshire County’s export-credit department, supporting eligible exporters through finance and insurance functions assigned to HCG.

• Office of the Leader of the Hampshire Chamber

  Supports the Government’s business in the Hampshire Chamber. It is Government-side machinery and does not administer the Chamber itself.
